The proposed agricultural plan for RDOS Area ‘A’ in partnership with the Town of Osoyoos has been awarded a grant of $15,000 from the Investment Agriculture Foundation of BC.  This grant is based on 50% of total funding for this proposed project.

New committee members are still needed.  “This project will be of interest to anyone working within the agricultural industry” says Mark Pendergraft, Director for Area ‘A’, “having a strong group of diverse people steering this plan will make it relevant for our area”.  Any local resident involved with activities such as wineries, agri-tourism activities, market gardening, ranching, and greenhouses are welcome to submit their names.

“Having representation from the Town would bring in an important perspective” says Mayor Stu Wells.  “The project is to review agricultural land use policies for both the rural area, the urban area and importantly, the farm/non-farm interface area”.

A Request for Proposal will be sent to three qualified consulting firms that expressed an interest in this project and it is hoped to have the contract awarded mid December.  Timelines to complete this project are fairly tight with an anticipated draft of the plan to be completed by July 2011.

For more information about the Agricultural Area Plan implementation or to submit your name for the Advisory Committee, contact the RDOS planning services at 250-492-0237, 1-877-610-3737 or email planning@rdos.bc.ca.
