NOTICE Cemetery Cleaning Scheduled for March 20, 2017

The Operational Services Department is asking the Public’s help to improve the overall appearance of the Osoyoos Lakeview Cemetery.  Over the years many of the existing gravesites at the Cemetery have become adorned with various items which hinder our department’s ability to maintain the Cemetery grounds to the highest standards possible.  Listed below are the restrictions for objects allowed to be placed on a grave site according to our existing Cemetery Bylaw No. 1325:

7.1 Boxes, shells, toys, wire screens, arbours, trellises, tripods, or any other objects are prohibited on any grave or Lot with the following exceptions:

(a) tripods may be used to hold wreaths and sprays of flowers during Interment;
(b) cut and artificial flowers, wreaths, and floral offerings may be placed on graves, but may be removed by the Cemetery Administrator when their condition is considered to be detrimental to the appearance or proper maintenance of the Cemetery;
(c) metal or plastic vases which may be set by the Cemetery Administrator flush with the ground.

7.2 No mausoleum or above-ground vault may be constructed or erected on any Lot in the Cemetery.
7.3 No Lot may be defined by fence, railing, coping, hedge or by any other marker except a Memorial as permitted under this bylaw.
7.4 No Lot may be decorated with trees, shrubs or plants, but may be decorated by placing cut flowers.

If you know of a family member’s gravesite which has any of the above noted objects added to it the Operational Services Department would like to give you this opportunity to remove the objects prior to a general clean-up of the Cemetery grounds scheduled for Monday March 20, 2017.

Thank you in advance for assisting us in maintaining the Cemetery grounds to the highest standards possible, improving the appearance of this facility for everyone.
