Regular Council Meetings

Regular Council meetings are held on the 1st and 3rd Mondays of each month, and commence at 2:00 pm.  If the Monday of a scheduled Council meeting is a holiday, the meeting is held on the following day.

Regular Council meetings are normally held in the Council Chambers, Town Hall, at 8707 Main Street, and are open to the public. For a schedule of 2017 Regular Open meetings click here.

The Committee of the Whole meetings are held on the same days as the Regular Council meetings and typically commence at 9:00 am.

A Special Council meeting is a council meeting other than a statutory, regular or adjourned meeting. Special Council meetings are generally not televised, but are open to the public, unless all or part of the meeting is closed by a vote of council.

In Camera Council meetings are also known as closed meetings. Prior to a Council closing a meeting or part of a meeting to the public, it has to state, by resolution, the fact that the meeting is to be closed, and the basis in legislation under which the meeting is to be closed. The public is not allowed to attend a closed meeting. The subject matters that are considered at public meetings include, but are not limited to:

  • Personal information about identifiable individuals;
  • Labour relations or employee negotiations;
  • The security of property of the municipality;
  • Acquisition or disposition of property, under certain circumstances;
  • Litigation, or potential litigation;
  • Law enforcement.

Live Broadcast

Most Council meetings are televised live, and are rebroadcast on Channel 10 at various times during the week that follows.  Since June 2010, Regular and Special Open meetings of Council are webcast and can be watched live from our website.  The video feeds are available on our Agendas, Videos & Minutes webpage.
