Council Highlights January 15, 2018

The RDOS, with participation from the Town of Osoyoos,
has prepared a guide describing where everyday items can be taken for reuse, recycling or safe disposal. Residents and businesses will receive a copy of the guide in the middle of March. Additional copies will be available at Town Hall.

A recent survey by the RDOS indicated that many people were unaware of the various businesses and local government depots for small appliances, dangerous chemicals, batteries, compact fluorescent lights and mercury thermostats. Often these valuable or dangerous resources get disposed in local landfills or released into the environment.

A number of BC Product Stewardship Programs contributed to the creation of the guide. These entities manage the take back programs for a wide assortment of materials across BC. The latest program allows all small household appliances to be recycled for free in BC.

Did you know...flourescent light bulbs can be taken to the Home Hardware Building Centre at 8702 Main Street for safe recycling.

Residents and businesses should watch for a copy of the guide in their mail over the next few weeks.
Residents or businesses that have blocked junk mail may not receive a copy.

Extra guides will be made available at Town Hall at 8707 Main Street or view online.
