EMPLOYMENT OPPORTUNITY Utility Operator Deadline October 8

The Resort Municipality of Osoyoos, BC, located in the beautiful South Okanagan Valley, is accepting applications for the position of Utility Operator for approximately 6 months.

Position Information

The Town of Osoyoos is seeking an individual motivated to assist the Town's Operational Services department perform maintenance functions for roads, sidewalks, grounds, boulevards, parks, and cemetery. The Utility Operator performs various tasks related to buildings, roads, sidewalk repairs, underground utilities, and other public work projects. The successful applicant must be able to use a variety of tools and equipment such as jackhammers, tamping machine, drill, various power tools, etc.

The Utility Operator position performs snow and ice removal functions using tractors and shovels, maintains boulevards by trimming, weeding, and removing debris, and using hand and light powered equipment in parks. Other duties include maintenance and repair of irrigation systems and park washrooms, installing, repairing, painting, and transporting various parks, playground equipment, construction of forms and concrete pads. The Utility Operator prepares plots for burials or ash internments and works around heavy equipment.

The preferred candidate will have graduated High School, has a current and valid Class 5 BC Drivers Licence. The following certificates would be considered an asset for the preferred candidate: WHMIS, Crane Operator Certificate, Transportation of Dangerous Goods Training, and Irrigation Ticket.

This is a temporary full-time unionized position that is 40 hours/week. The hourly rate is $29.75 - $33.06.

Osoyoos is situated in a unique and special environment that includes the warmest freshwater lake in Canada and the warmest annual temperature. It is Canada's only true desert with the lowest annual precipitation and Sonoran Desert flora and fauna. Surrounded by stunning vistas, beautiful vineyards, fabulous golf courses and other outdoor amenities, it is an extraordinary area to visit, play in, and live.
